Capital Area DEAF (Deaf Education & Advocacy Force) purpose is to provide opportunities, resources and services to the Deaf community within the metropolitan Baton Rouge area through several methods including:



• providing access to sign language interpreters for major life events (i.e., funerals, weddings, religious services) when no other funding source is legally obligated to provide communication access;



• establishing a physical location as a community center and hub for the Deaf community to be able to access resources, obtain information, attend trainings and workshops and interact with other community members;



• providing information, referrals, resources and assistance to Deaf community members who have been unable to obtain appropriate communication access within the Baton Rouge area as required by the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

ADVOCACY

- To educate the general public about hearing loss; present artifacts; showcase stories of deaf individuals and their circles of families and friends; and to provide a full range of insight into their struggles and successes.

- To develop a series of world-class exhibits, workshops, classes, activities and forums on a variety of topics designed to promote a greater understanding of, knowledge of, and respect for deaf individuals.
- To increase the general public's understanding and appreciation of Deaf Culture and American Sign Language.
- To serve as a community resource, providing information about hearing loss and guiding those in need of assistance to the resources available in their communities.

- To promote an increased understanding of and appreciation for diversity.
- To engage the business community in a spirit of mutual support, collaboration, training, consultation and camaraderie.
- To collaborate with business communities in developing visibility/involvement programs, business leadership programs and building long-term public/private partnerships.
- To provide opportunities for corporate social investments; in-kind/executive loan/business liaison programs and cause related marketing.
